I’m no bible expert by any means (I don’t believe in God for a start) but when you said “Remember that God killed the first animals for man's clothing. (Genesis 3-21)”, can’t God just make things out of nothing anyway, he doesn’t have to actually kill anything to do it? He didn’t kill the snake, why would he pick on another innocent animal in the garden, and if he did, why worship that?
Also, you acknowledge that hunting is evil (“hunting was a necessary evil”), yet go on to glorify it. Hunting for food and clothing is now no longer necessary in modern society, and so by your own logic you are teaching your son to engage in an unnecessary, immoral act. You obviously do it because you enjoy it, please don’t hide behind religion.
In addition, your assertion that “some people would simply starve to death before they would plant or hunt” is completely ludicrous at best, starkly ignorant and racist at worst.
Please save your prayers for someone who will make use of them. I certainly don’t agree with some of the violent and hateful comments on the website, but if you could place this alongside them in the negative comments message board for the sake of balance, I would appreciate it.

Cant say i was surprised to see you just opted to ignore it outright, I doubt you even gave it the consideration it deserved.

I am on my way to Sunday service, but wanted to ask if you could please post something on the negative comments to let other countries know that not all Americans condone the killing of animals in canned hunts.  I have read a number of comments now from various countries, and unfortunately believe that enough individuals have misguided notions of Americans without adding fuel to the fire by playing into the stereotype of all Americans as
uneducationed, backwoods rubes.

Not all Americans are PETA members either.  I have hunters in my family, and until recently sat on the board of a nature preserve.  I have a BS in
Biology, and did my share of dissections in my day.  However, I think it is important for everyone to understand that you and your family's actions do
not in any way reflect the values and beliefs of all Americans.
 
Congratulations on "hunting" this "wild" pig in an ENCLOSURE. Wow, what an accomplishment. HOW many times did you have to shoot it?

That's not hunting. I know what hunting is. "Tracking" an animal in an enclosure is like shooting fish in a barrel. Please wake up and change your life before you inherit any more of this redneck stupidity from your parents.

Since your life is beeing influenzed strongly now I want to write you some comments that I think could be valuable to consider.
You are famous now, which, I am sure makes you feel quite good- it is like an unexpected present.
Beeing famous is not as easy as one imagines though.
But also there is hatred and you are beeing laughed at which hurts. I imagine you can ignore that since there are so many people who support you.
In some weeks or months publicity will be ebbing out but your life continous and you will have changed. I hope you can use the experience to build up your personality.
I can see an easy and a more complicated way in front of you.
The easy way is to stick to everyone who is supporting the hunt. You can just be carried through live riding on that wave, do what everyone expects from you. Be what we call conservative, do as everybody around you does- as an example, like some of the mailers advice: get a rifle, hunt for more dangerous animals, join the army etc. Proove yourself and block off all criticism.
The other way is not so very different. You are a Southener and of course your future will be according to your environment. But, listen also to the other way of thinking, try out the opposite arguments, play with life, get an overall view to life. I am not asking you to get to be a vegetarian or to stop hunting all of a sudden but consider this way of life, talk to people who do things the other way, be open-minded. You can be more successfull- which way ever your future will be.

I recognize that father son bonding time is very important in a young man's life, but did you have to make the activity killing? I think its great that you are being taught to live off of the land but in all honesty, why did you feel it necessary to kill this harmless animal? whatever happened to teaching you children to raise animals and tend vegetable gardens? When did we resort to teaching them to kill? And can you honestly say that this animal deserved to be tortured for 3 hours, and worse yet what did you do with it when you were done. yes the bible teaches that man needs to kill animals for food but it also teaches to take only that which you need. theres no way in hell you needed over a thousand pounds of pork. did you donate the rest to a soup kitchen or did you just throw it out? people always wonder why there is more violence in this world now more than ever. its because people are teaching their kids that its ok to kill. well its not. i'm in school majoring in criminal justice with the hopes of becoming a criminal profiler. as much as i hope that you lead a long and happy life and find a way to mesh with society, i really hope that i never have to see your file sitting on my desk because i cant honestly say that i wouldnt have much sympathy for you if you decided to turn from killing animals to killing people. may god recognize that this is a sin of the father, not of the son and save your eternal soul!
 
I noticed some people on the positive feedback saying that human beings can do whatever they want to animals because God gave humans that right. 

I have to disagree with that.  I mean, to an extent it's true.  But think about this.  God may have given us dominion over animals.  But God also gave us free will, and with that the ability to do good or evil.  I think that also applies to the way we treat animals, even though we're technically free to do what we want with them.  We can treat animals respectfully, and kindly.  Or we can kill whatever is in our path.  Jam the animals into cages inhumanely just to profit as much as possible, hunt for the fun of it and the rush you get from killing.

I personally feel that God does not look kindly on those who take joy in destroying something He lovingly created, whether we're free to do so or not.  Don't tell me you're hunting just for food.  If you were hunting just to feed yourself and your family, you wouldn't have gone on a canned hunt.  You wouldn't have encouraged your son to kill a pig that big, because I don't think you could possibly eat that much.  And you wouldn't disrespectfully brag about the animals you killed by mounting them as "trophies" and make a website gloating about it.
 
How proud you must be having "hunted" and killed a farm raised pig on an enclosed hunting preserve.  Add in the fact that you faked the pictures to make it look like the pig was bigger than it really was and you come off as nothing more than an inbred, Dick Cheney wannabe.  So typical of the redneck culture that is found in your part of the country.  You guys make me sick in every way possible.

Awhile back I met a guy who was bird watching. Having always had the opinion that birds are nice but bird watching was kind of boring and nerdy, I asked him what  it was he liked so much about it. He said that for him it had an appeal similiar to what hunters enjoy in that one had to be very intrepid, patient and clever to find and pursue the birds. They didn't just fly down in front of him - he had to seek them out and it was like a game to him. The difference of course is that when he found them he only observed and enjoyed them and didn't kill them. He allowed them to continue on with their own lives without interference but got satisfaction from the process and also from the thrill of finding them and observing them. There are many choices in life. This man chose a sport which hurts nothing and enhances life. Whatever one's opinions are about guns, animals and hunting, there are also facts, and the fact is that the pig you killed, tame or wild, big or small, jaw-popping or docile, was a sentient creature with a central nervous system that feels pain and also has an inherent desire, as all living creatures do, to live. Fact #2: it took three hours to finally kill the pig, so for three hours that animal was suffering. And suffering is suffering, whether it is an animal or human being. In a world where there is so much suffering that can't be avoided, do you really want to create suffering where it doesn't exist? Isn't it a better choice to try to ALLEVIATE suffering, rather than create it?

I urge you to consider carefully the choices you have as you go through life. I don't blame you; you are a young boy and you have been taught one way to think. But you also have a choice to learn to think for yourself. I challenge you to do some research about pigs and perhaps even really spend some time observing them and see if you still feel the same way. I also recommend this movie: The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill. It may make you look at animal life differently (and it's very entertaining.) If you really make an effort to explore this issue and look at both sides and you still don't feel any differently, that is your prerogative and I respect that. That's the wonderful thing about living in a free, democratic society - we can make choices. But to truly exercise that right means to look at both sides, to educate ourselves, and I hope that you will choose to do that. I was wondering if you can imagine having 8 bullets in you while running for you life for 3 hours. Just imagine it. Through life, you should never forget that suffering is not just something that humans go through. Animals go through the same terror, fear, pain, and suffering that humans do. Maybe it is just easier for a hunter to think that only humans suffer, that it does not matter about any other beings. Terror and pain are what happens in such a hunt before death. Trophies come and go. Canned hunting means the animal has no chance at all.
 
So your son is a "champion" because he can pull the trigger on a cornered animal. What sick and low standards you have. You don't deserve to call yourself Christians because you are not. Killing animals for fun and calling it sport is more from the Devil's side. God loves all creatures great and small.

I am writing to voice my concern over the killing of this unusual animal. I am most concerned that an 11 year old believes that killing something so unique is "an accomplishment".  I wonder what sort of people raise their children to be proud of killing defenceless animals. Regardless of it's size, animals are no competition for a human using gun and shooting from a safe distance away.  This behaviour is cowardly- like hitting someone from behind.  Instead of feeling proud, this boy should feel ashamed for putting an animal through three hours of suffering for no reason at all.  I expect parents to teach children about compassion and appreciation for life. If he had been encouraged to shoot with a camera instead of a gun, people around the world could have benefitted from this encounter.

Just my opinion but  Personally, I'm really sad you shot that pig. How nice it would have been for it to either live free or be used as a source of scientific  discovery. But hey, I'm from California where we tend to think that way.  My son is 10 and became a vegetarian on his own at age 5 (his father and I are carnivores). Our son still takes the time to remove even ants from our house so no one will squish them. Interesting how different two American boys can be!

I am appalled!!  Why would you want to hunt this pig in the first place.  Of course the pig ran for at least a mile, it was trying to get away from a crazed killer.  If you just wanted to kill the pig why didn’t you use something to kill it instantly instead of torturing the poor thing for three hours.  What kind of “pig” are you and what kind of parents do you have that will allow this and glorify it.  Shame on you and shame on Rick and Bubba for expressing their excitement in this massacre.
